The 2024 Mashujaa Day Celebrations In Laikipia County

Laikipia County celebrated the 61st Mashujaa Day at the County Headquarters in Rumuti. The ceremony was led by H.E. Governor Joshua Irungu EGH and Laikipia County Commissioner Onesmus Kyatha.
The theme of this years Mashujaa Day is "Boma Yangu" (My Home). In his speech, Governor Irungu noted the socio-economic freedom brought by decent, affordable housing, stating that people are afforded a dignified life and security.
"I am pleased to announce that 200 housing units in Nanyuki are nearing completion, and we will soon commence the construction of 900 units at Starehe Estate in Nyahururu," the Governor stated.
He further emphasized the employment opportunities created by the project and how the local economy has benefited from the ripple effect occasioned by such a large undertaking. That, he noted, is freedom.
Closer to home, Governor Irungu identified unique heroes of our time.
"John Kiptanui Kimeli from Gatirima village is dedicated to environmental conservation, and Kenneth Kamau (KK) has pioneered the first public participation initiative on X-space, showcasing the transformative potential of new media in democratic engagement," the Governor read.
The event ended on a high note, featuring ample entertainment and various speeches from different speakers, all of whom acknowledged how heroism has evolved in modern-day Kenya from medical officers in health facilities and teachers to farmers feeding the nation, entertainers and sporting icons, and technologists in various fields furthering the Kenyan dream.
